Dedicated to the memory of Ross

This site is a tribute to Ross, who was born on April 10, 1957.

Born in Falkirk, Scotland he moved to Macclesfield, England at the age of 7 where he went to school and met his future wife, Jacqueline. After studying at Cambridge, he settled in Hertfordshire, where he brought up his two girls, Sarah and Emily. He spent his career in academia at both Middlesex and Hertfordshire universities. He spent his free time reading a book, surrounded by nature or perched over a chess board.

He is so loved and will always be remembered.

Thoughts

I heard Ross had passed away from our mutual colleague at Middlesex Paul Baines, and just wished to add to these wonderful tributes. Ross was such a lovely colleague to have when I entered academia in 1993, in a mid-career from industry, as Ross had. He put me at ease with his warm, witty and ironic sense of humour. (not least about the peculiarities of academic work culture!) He was very persuasive, and I was very happy to contribute to his Cases in Marketing Management book with a London Underground chapter, discussed and duly delivered to the Brennan home in Hatfield. He had, as they say, plenty of hinterland. A true gentle person, a truly exceptional scholar, and a wonderful colleague to have in your corner when you needed encouragement...thank you Ross Simon Speller (ex Middlesex)

I have put this off for so long because words do fail me. I first met Ross at IMP Manchester in 1995 and since then have loved seeing him at subsequent IMP Conferences. He was always insightful, intelligent and honestly just a brilliant academic. But that is not what I remember most he was an amazing family man and we every year would talk for hours about our kids, I from a distance saw Sarah and Emily grow up and he was so proud of both of them. Ross I will miss our chats each year but have such fond memories that will live on. You will be missed but not forgotten. CSB (Sydney)

I met Ross at various IMP conferences. A very clever, interesting and approachable man. It was always lovely to catch up with him.
